Sports Massage

Customized For Your Needs

Everyone can have a sports massage. Sports Massages aren’t exclusively for athletes. Anyone who wants to maintain a flexible, pain free body that is able to function without stiffness and injury can benefit. If you are a parent regularly carrying children and taking them in and out of car seats you could ease pain, prevent injury and maintain an easy relaxed posture. Or you might sit at a desk for hours a day, stuck in the same position, straining your neck, bent over your keyboard, getting stiff and tight wrists, back and shoulders. Perhaps your job is physical, standing and walking all day, carrying heavy loads, climbing, bending, kneeling , repairing things from an awkward position for minutes and hours at a time. A sports massage is rejuvenating and healing.

For athletes, performers and people who take part in sport and exercise a regular sports massage can improve your performance, aid in better recovery, prevent soft tissue dysfunction and prevent injury by improving your range of movement and flexibility. By performing with more ease, activities require less effort and recovery is faster. A muscular spasm can be eased out and fast pain relief achieved.

What happens during a sports massage?

First of all I will take a health history and find out how I can treat you from this information. When I meet you at my clinic I will carry out a postural assessment to observe how your body functions and look for muscle tightness and imbalances. Once I have your consent to carry out the treatment, I will leave you alone to undress to your underwear and lie on the massage table with towels covering you. Depending upon which areas I treat, you may only have to have legs free or back free of clothing unless you are having an all over maintenance massage. You will only be uncovered in the areas of the body that I am working on. All you have to do is arrive 5 minutes early, showered and ready to feel better. Occasionally, in order to relieve knotty adhesions and trigger points in the muscles, deeper techniques are used which can be slightly uncomfortable for very short periods of time but you will feel great relief after the muscle fibres relax and lengthen out.

Sometimes I may incorporate assisted stretching too. So sports massage will promote the circulation of oxygenated blood to the muscles, aid in the removal of toxins into the lymphatic system and create a sense of wellbeing by stimulating the nervous system.
